Chatsworth Gardens and its "Revelation" Waterworks

The well-known UK sculptor Angela Conner created the Chatsworth ornamental outdoor water feature called “Revelation.” In 2004/2005 she was commissioned by the now deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to design a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in brass and steel, for the Queen’s 80th birthday. In 1999 Revelation was set up in Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s earliest ponds. It takes on the configuration of four large flower petals designed from steel which opens and closes with the water movement, alternately hiding and displaying a golden globe at the sculpture’s heart. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was built from metal and then coated with gold dust. 50025coqn__08059.jpg This newest water fountain is an exciting and interesting addition to the Chatsworth Gardens, unique in that the movement of the petals is totally driven by water.

The Dispersion of Water Fountain Design Innovation

Contributing to the advancement of scientific technology were the published letters and illustrated publications of the time. They were also the principal method of transmitting practical hydraulic information and fountain design ideas all through Europe. An unnamed French fountain developer became an internationally celebrated hydraulic pioneer in the later part of the 1500's. With Royal commissions in Brussels, London and Germany, he started his career in Italy, building expertise in garden design and grottoes with integrated and ingenious water features. The publication, “The Principles of Moving Forces,” penned towards the end of his lifetime in France, turned into the definitive text on hydraulic mechanics and engineering. Classical antiquity hydraulic discoveries were detailed as well as updates to essential classical antiquity hydraulic discoveries in the book. Archimedes, the creator of the water screw, had his work featured and these included a mechanized way to move water. An ornamental water feature with sunlight heating up the water in two containers stashed in an adjacent area was shown in one illustration. What occurs is the hot water expanded, rises and locks up the piping heading to the fountain, thereby leading to activation. Pumps, water wheels, water features and backyard pond concepts are documented in the book.

Use a Fountain To Help Boost Air Quality

You can liven up your surroundings by installing an indoor wall fountain. Pleasant to the senses and beneficial to your health, these indoor features are an excellent addition to your home. If you doubt the benefits of water fountains, just look at the science supporting this theory. The negative ions generated by water features are offset by the positive ions produced by contemporary conveniences. Indisputable favorable improvements in mental and physical health emerge when negative ions overpower positive ions. They also raise serotonin levels, so you start to feel more alert, relaxed and invigorated. Due to the negative ions it produces, an indoor wall fountain can improve your mood and also eliminate impurities in the air. Water features also help in eliminating allergens, pollutants among other types of irritants. Lastly, the dust particles and micro-organisms floating in the air inside your house are absorbed by water fountains leading to better overall health.

Water Features: Pets, Visiting Birds and You

Wildlife and pets are naturally attracted to bird feeders and water fountains. Drinking, washing, and grooming are some of the things birds need to do. Birds including robins, thrushes, orioles, or warblers prefer the motion of water from a fountain and are not necessarily drawn to bird feeders. While bowl-shaped bird baths can be dull to many birds, fountains are more enticing because of the moving water they generate. Birds are highly attracted to the trickling and splashing sounds produced.

Dogs are attracted to fountains because they provide fresh water to drink. During scorching months of summer, cats and dogs will be outside searching for the absolute freshest water around. Also, routinely flowing water fountains require less upkeep than the still water of a birdbath that tend to get dirtier.

The Plusses of a Water Fountain in Your Office

Most customers love water fountains. A business or store with a beautiful water fountain in its entryway will entice customers and differentiate them from the competition. Having a visible water feature outside retailers such as yoga studios, bookstores, coffee shops, salons can a positive impact on business. For businesses where people like to mingle outdoors, a water fountain can provide a soothing environment. Couples out on a romantic date will definitely appreciate a memorable fountain in any bar or restaurant.

Keeping Your Garden Water fountain Clean

In order to ensure that water fountains last a while, it is vital to perform regular maintenance. It is easy for foreign objects to find their way into outside fountains, so keeping it clean is essential. On top of that, algae can be a concern, because sun hitting the water allows it to form easily. To avoid this, take vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or sea salt and add directly into the water. Bleach can also be put into the water, but this is not an ideal option because it can harm birds or other animals.

Experts suggest that the typical garden fountain undergoes a thorough scrubbing every three-four months. To start with you must empty the water. Then use a soft rag and gentle cleanser to scrub the inside. If there is detailed artwork, you might need to use a toothbrush for those hard-to-reach areas.

Make sure all the soap is properly rinsed off.

Make sure you get rid of any calcium or plankton by taking the pump apart and scrubbing the inside thoroughly. You might want to let it soak in vinegar for a few hours to make it easier to wash. Mineral or rain water, versus tap water, is ideal in order to eliminate any build-up of chemicals inside the pump.

Finally, be sure to have a quick look at your fountain every day and add water if you see that the level is too low. If the water level drops below the pump’s intake level, it can hurt the pump and cause it to burn out - something you don't want to happen!
