The Pull of Multi-Tiered Water Fountains

For a long time now, multi-tiered fountains have been common, most notably in gardens. Mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain generally have many tiered fountains. While they can be located anywhere, they are most typical in the center of building complexes and in popular areas where people gather. While some multi-level fountains have sophisticated designs including sculptures or artwork, others are very simple.

Any area can be embellished with one, even though a more traditional setting is sometimes more appropriate. twf024-ac__37720.jpg If done correctly, anyone seeing the fountain will think it has been there forever.

Builders of the First Outdoor Fountains

Fountain designers were multi-talented individuals from the 16th to the late 18th century, often serving as architects, sculptors, artists, engineers and highly educated scholars all in one person. During the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci exemplified the creator as an innovative master, inventor and scientific specialist. With his tremendous fascination concerning the forces of nature, he examined the attributes and movement of water and also systematically annotated his findings in his now much celebrated notebooks. Innovative water displays complete with symbolic meaning and natural wonder transformed private villa settings when early Italian water feature creators coupled creativity with hydraulic and gardening abilities. The humanist Pirro Ligorio, renowned for his virtuosity in archeology, architecture and garden design, delivered the vision behind the wonders in Tivoli. Masterminding the phenomenal water marbles, water features and water antics for the assorted mansions near Florence, other water feature engineers were well versed in humanistic topics and time-honored scientific texts.

Deciding on the Best Place for Your Water Element

It is important to consider how a water fountain will fit into your garden prior to purchasing one. They make beautiful centerpieces in roundabouts and make a nice impression in driveways and entryways too.

If you choose to put yours against a wall, there are fountains designed specifically for this purpose. To attach one against a wall, look for a bar or hook on the back made precisely for this purpose. Such fountains are not stable on their own, therefore, be certain to secure it right away so that it does not topple over as a result of weather conditions, animals or other natural occurrences.

Anywhere people gather to sit and enjoy the fresh air is perfect for another option, a garden sculpture style.

Can Water Wall Fountains Help Cleanse The Air?

If what you want is to breathe life into an otherwise dull ambiance, an indoor wall fountain can be the answer. Pleasant to the senses and beneficial to your well-being, these indoor features are an excellent addition to your home.

The science behind the idea that water fountains can be good for you is unquestionable. The negative ions emitted by water features are counterbalanced with the positive ions produced by modern-day conveniences. Beneficial changes to both your mental and physical health take place when the negative ions are overpowered by the positive ions. They also raise serotonin levels, so you begin to feel more alert, relaxed and invigorated. The negative ions generated by indoor wall fountains promote a better mood as well as remove air impurities from your home. They also help to reduce allergies, contaminants as well as other types of irritants. And lastly, dust contaminants and microbes in the air are removed and lead to improved health.

The Splendid Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain in Rome

Archaeologists and restorers on the lookout for pagan and Christian artifacts in Rome have stumbled upon an abundance of them in the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin. Situated in the portico of the nearby basilica one can find the celebrated marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). The situation of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known neighborhood and was, therefore, not oftentimes visited. It was said that there was very little to see in this area, as it was bleak and desolate making it an unfriendly place to visit. In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to create a fountain for the area. Work on the church's foundation began on on August 11, 1717. After blessing of the first stone, medals bearing the illustration of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown into the foundation.
